Mission Statement

Our objective as school counselors at Fruitport Middle School is to provide all students guidance and support that will assist them in successfully dealing with life's demands as an adolescent.  In addition, it is our goal to provide a meaningful relationship with students and a safe environment where students can share personal, social, and academic problems in which they may struggle.

MEAP Testing

Testing for the Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP) will begin in October.  Staff will be working with students on test taking strategies to help prepare students.  Please encourage your child to do their personal best on these upcoming tests.  We use this data to help drive our curriculum and focus for academic performance here at Fruitport Middle School.

Your help in making sure they get a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast during testing time is appreciated.  Studies show that students who have slept and eaten well perform well!

Girls on The Run

Fruitport Middle School will once again run the Girls on the Run program for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade girl.  Registration for this after school Girl Empowerment group begins in January.  Cost is $60 and includes New Balance running shoes, a T shirt, and all the activities.  Scholarship money is available.  Call Mrs. Kolbe at 865-3128 ext. 3006 for more information.

Career Cruising

Seventh and Eighth graders will be working on their Educational Development Plans using the online web source Career Cruising.
This program allows students to take an interest inventory, explore careers, and enter in personal experiences and talents.  Fruitport Middle School uses this program to keep a career portfolio on all students that follows them throughout high school.

Michigan's six career pathways are:

  • Arts and Communication
  • Business Management, Marketing, and Technology
  • Engineering, Manufacturing, and Industrial Technology
  • Health Sciences
  • Human and Public Services
  • Natural Resources and Agriscience

Career Cruising can be accessed from any computer with the Internet.  Just type in www.careercruising.com.  The user name is 'fruitport' and the password is 'middle'.
